App dev killed it 2 weeks ago with a terrible update. Now it crashes on every PDF and cannot sync without crashing.

... except for one nit. When I AirDrop a document from one iOS device to another it loses the bookmarks. Please fix!
  • Locks Up. Broke the “Open in” feature.

Well, after years of trouble free use, the people at GoodReader decided (for whatever reason) to cripple their app. Was working just fine till the latest update. Now whenever I try to select a pdf file and use the “open in” button the app locks up and has to be force quit. 😡 Not sure want this new “update” was for but I liked it a LOT better before. Can’t wait to see what they dream up for their next”major” update. 🤦‍♂️ <- UPDATE -> Turns out GoodReader app isn’t the problem after all. When attempting to use the “open in” button, GoodReader looks for all available options to open a file in. It looks for the Apple iOS “Files” app. Problem is, the Apple “Files” app sometimes glitches out and is unresponsive thus causing GoodReader to lock-up. So it’s not GoodReader causing the problem. The Apple “Files” issue is widely reported. Therefore I am updating my previous 1 star review back up to 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ which GoodReader rightfully deserves.
  • Unreliable

Lots of apps just to read documents. Purpose of GoodReader is for other features. Does not work to “open in other app,” nor to save to photos. If it features don’t work, then app is useless.

My Good reader keeps crashing on my iPad after upgrade to version 4.13.0, I did reboot the device But it didn't help. Now I can't study nor access my notes and highlights after this update :( Edit: How long do I have to wait for the bug fix?!!! I'm dependent on this app for my studying
  • “Super robust” no more. Unusable due to crashes. Every. Time.

Last update to fix connectivity has me crashing every time since that “fix” 2 weeks ago. Have submitted crash reports. No response. No update. Frustrating. Was integral part of my workflow now looking for alternatives.

I bought the previous version from this app 3-4 years back, when the new IOS version came upgraded to it finding out latter that Goodreader no longer was accessible and after a lot of searching found in the developer page a tool to extract the documents to a computer. Tried to contact the developer to ask if upgrading to the new version would regain access to the PFD publications tailored to my use after years of fine tuning and nowhere no be found a straight forward “contact us” link. Bought the new version believing that would be able to access again my documents and a message came stating it was not possible, seems like that the developer is only interested in the money and not support for its customers, paying again for the app believe is a ripoff, if you already are a client a “upgrade” fee would have been more logical as many other apps do.

In my previous post I stated that this app was having difficulty syncing with google drive. Since then the team has updated the app and now syncs perfectly with google drive. The reason I went from 1 star to only 3 stars is that I am still waiting for the apple pencil integration. As of now the apple pencil does write in the app but does not completely eliminate a simple finger swipe from making marks. Also the iPad heats up A LOT, especially in the dead center of the screen. This only occurs when using the apple pencil. The have announced an update via email for GoodReader 5. If you can, wait until the new version comes out. If this app stays exactly the same and simply adds apple pencil integration this app will be unstoppable!

I live using GoodReader to sync with Dropbox and Google Drive. But a recent change to GoodReader now causes syncs to fail that previously succeeded: having a double quote (“) in a file name. This is costing me several hours to address.
