  • Slow to sync across devices • Hard to access old notes

I used to love IA writer but they recently changed their apps to default to iCloud syncing. Since I’ve been syncing my IA notes with Dropbox for over a year, it’s now very difficult to access my old notes and overall the app is incredibly slow to download or sync notes across devices.
  • Works Great For Me

One of those apps that gives you an uncluttered, distraction free place to just bust out on a writing jag. It is also a powerful tool for formatting if and when you need it, which makes this app the best of both worlds. I use it on my iPhone 8, iPad Pro and on a MacBook Pro and it syncs perfectly without any hassle. The developer is also not raping you with pricing or subscriptions although for further development I wouldn’t mind some IAPs or tip jar to show some gratitude for all of the dev’s hard work. There are also great tutorials if you want to take your writing to another level or format in a slew of different ways. PS: Don't know what the iCloud beef is about but I would prefer it to Dropbox, any day!
  • My Favorite Markdown Writing App

I have been back in forth with many Markdown writing apps, and hands down IA Writer is my favorite across all my device. I like the short cut usage on on my devices Mac, iPad, and iPhone, make writing a breeze. The reason for the 4 stars is that I really wish the adaption of TextExpander would make my writing on my iPad and iPhone so much better, works very well on my Mac. I hope that in the future you adopt the TextExpander API, thank you again for a great well designed product.
  • It seems good when it use to work

I don’t know what happened ... it was pretty great to use to edit text files in my onedrive . Yesterday I was using the app and now it seems to have problems opening files . I am not sure it seems like the app needs to be fixed . Hopefully soon because I don’t appreciate paying for an app that doesn’t work anymore .
  • Good app but DropBox API sync removed

I have been using this app forever. Good app, serves my on the go writing needs. That being said, they removed the in app dedicated DropBox sync and replaced it with the system wide open method in iOS 11. This is fine and all except there is a bug with DropBox’s open file plugin, causing not downloaded it to hang randomly when I tried to open it from the files app and this app. For now I have resorted to editing files from iCloud.

There are obviously UMPTEEN writing apps on iOS. But there is only one iA Writer. And I don't say this lightly. There are, truly, many very excellent and popular writing apps out there. iA Writer 5's new user interface leaps forward into the realm of the truly phenomenal. It is now THE most intuitive and expeditious writing environment I have ever experienced on iOS. Composing on iOS with the new customizable command keyboard is incredibly fluid, elegant and, frankly, plain fun to use! In terms of "flow" in traditional handwriting it's like the difference between a fully primed Mont Blanc (iA) and a scratchy ballpoint pen. I also appreciate iA has been relentless in pursuit of font minimalism. But let me just say it; the new Duospace font is sublime. So glad Hell Froze Over. It certainly took a hell of a LOT of time!! (I blame global warming) In the end it was worth the wait. Commendations to iA for taking the time to re-Vision, re-Invent an already truly intelligent tool that's so delightful to use... It is no small feat. I am thrilled to behold how these thoughtful iterations will applied to the upcoming iA Writer 5 MacOS update.
  • No Swipe to Preview⁉️ 💔

I was a beta tester. They took away the swipe to Preview the rendered Markdown. I'm still not used to tapping a button and it feels like a step backwards. I really miss that feature. 💔 The new features are amazing, and the button lets you start in Preview when viewing files, but you have to turn off Preview and then tap to edit every time you want to edit. This gets in the way of my writing. 🔏 I have let them know about this. If you like swiping to Preview/Text View, then please email the developer. This is not keeping it simple.
  • This is a New App, Not An Update

Billed as an update, but upon installing it did not import all my documents from the prior version. Difficult to find the way to import documents from prior version. Actually needed to go to old version and export. Previously gave a worse rating but upgraded to mediocre after getting feedback from the developer to sort out export feature.
  • Less apple sauce

It’s addictive to use. Still the best tool for focused writing on phone and computer. Feel a slight delay in opening the tool panel which seems to get in the way a bit... like there’s always a hang. Let me clarify. It’s the first tool bar hit after launch usually. Frequent use doesn’t have a delay, but just enough occasionally that it’s noticeable.
  • Used to be my go-to writing app until lost Dropbox support

I still use this app a lot, but once Dropbox support disappeared, it has become a hassle to use, because most of my writing is on Dropbox. I know the change came because of the Dropbox API being withdrawn or turned off by Dropbox, but still, it has caused problems with my writing workflow. Just raised my rating because of support response! That’s great that you’re working on it. Hopefully, Dropbox will unclench and let others use their system, instead of forcing their own lame editing apps on us all :)
