Description

TC is a full-featured communication solution for individuals who have difficulty using their natural voice. TC is designed for individuals with Autism, Down Syndrome, ALS, apraxia, stroke, or other conditions that affect a person's ability to use natural speech. This version of TC is bundled with the WordPower series of AAC vocabularies designed by Nancy Inman. WordPower is a word-based vocabulary that allows for easy and intuitive communication. WordPower with Phrases incorporates phrases for easier language generation. TC 2.0 provides both English and Spanish options in one app and provides a universal app supporting iPhone®, iPod touch® and iPad®. 2.0 includes a new English WordPower 108 file and the first Spanish WordPower option with 48 locations. TC fits into the category of assistive technology known as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and includes features that were previously only available in much more expensive dedicated devices. Words, phrases and messages are spoken with a built-in voice synthesizer or by playing recorded message. Various English and Spanish synthesized voices are available, allowing the user to choose a voice that fits their own personality. TC also has a unique feature whereby one can simply tilt the device to make the message expand to fill the screen in large letters. This feature allows a person to communicate silently or in a noisy environment. TC gives an individual the ability to navigate through page sets and speak messages. Page sets are linked pages, each of which is divided into a number of buttons. The buttons are programmed to have specific actions. For example, buttons may be programmed to speak a message, navigate to a different page, change the volume or clear the display. Various page sets are included with the TC: VocabPC, MultiChat-15, and Spelling and available in both English and Spanish options, myQuickChat’s are available in English while Sintaxis and Sin Sintaxis files are available in Spanish. Each page set targets individuals with different communication needs. Additional English page sets including Essence, Gateway and Pixon are available as in-app purchases. Text generated with TC pages can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, Google + or via iMessage and email. Generate a message, push on the text window and choose a service. Text from other applications can be copied to TC so that it can be spoken out loud. Also, text generated in TC can be copied to other applications. The pages, grid layout, buttons, messages, and symbols are fully customizable. Buttons can be easily rearranged by simply dragging them to the desired new location. Buttons can be copied and pasted into a different location. The styling of a button (colors, borders, fonts) can be copied and pasted into another button. Provided page sets can be modified to create new custom page sets. Select from over 30 button actions when creating new buttons. Over 10,000 Symbolstix symbols are included for customizing buttons. Use any image or take a photo with the built-in camera. Gestures can also be used to navigate to new pages, speak messages, etc. Button activation timing can be adjusted to meet the needs and capabilities of the user. Adjustments include button dwell time and button release time. Also buttons can be configured to activate on release. Users can program buttons to play audio files such as music from the media library or video files from the Photo Roll. Great measures have been taken to protect custom files. Vocabulary files can be imported and exported to a computer using the iTunes file sharing feature. TC also enables users to subscribe to iShare and store custom files for safe keeping, or choose to share customized pages with an online community. iPhone, iPod touch and iPad are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.

  • Update crashes

April 12, 2015 After updating - iShare not allowing me to upload my files into the iShare account that I paid the membership to use for storing the vocabulary files. - I was very pleased to see it is now universal update for same app for iPhone, iPad and iPod. Thank you! Now what we use at home will look the same as what the school uses. July 6, 2014 Current TouchChat update crashes with recent iPhone update. Currently not able to use on the device with current updates. March 17, 2014 Recent iTunes software update resulted with airplane mode icon and time to stay visible on text line within the TouchChat on iPad2 but not on other more current Apple devices. Please fix with update or post how I can fix on my iPad2 if there is something I need to adjust in my settings. Thank you! *************** They fixed the issues from the end of June 29, 2013 update. Thank you! Very happy with the product. I hope they will consider lowering or eliminating the iShare cost that allows users to have access to a file sharing community of TouchChat users to share vocabulary files, because the more we share of the creative pages we create the more options become available to the users in need of the communication device. Users can still save their own vocabulary files on their own computer at no additional cost, but the iShare membership allows you to give and receive by downloading from the iShare files with other users that select to share. It is my understanding when you first purchase the TouchChat with WordPower the iShare membership is provided at no additional cost for a limited time, but then if you wish to continue the membership you need to buy the membership as an upgrade. ******************************* Prior review: Great app- very easy to customize We first purchased Proloquo2Go and then were introduced to the TouchChat with WordPower app. Very expensive - but worth it. I wish the iShare membership fee was less, because I think if it was priced less more people (families) would maintain their membership which would ultimately allow for more sharing of materials between families to allow the app to hopefully stay being considered by many parents as the best app for communication tools within the iPad / iPod / iPhone device community. Right now with the price for iShare membership (online option for sharing vocabulary files and pages with others families) some families I know are not able to participate due to limited resources as families with special needs children which pushed them to return to other communication options provided to them at no charge by the school system. I believe, based on what I have seen happen with three families in my community, you are losing customers to dedicated communication devices provided by schools (at no charge to families) by having the continued iShare membership at the current price. Yes, I am aware files can be transferred over the home computer without the iShare membership, but it doesn't allow for sharing with other families like the iShare membership allows.
